My dad use to tease us (Marylyn, Leon jnr, & me), by telling us
that he will get us on a program called, "Opportunity Knocks."
Well, like I said he'd tease us, we'd stand in front of the TV &
he'd say, "Sing let me hear you, let's see if you are good enough."
So we'd sing, and he'd say, "Yes, that's good." Then he'd make
us empty promises about getting us on that show.
He thought it was a joke, but I was serious, I wanted to sing
and sing and sing, it's funny now looking back....
My very first song was about food.... Jamaicans, and I believe
most west Indians, call it dumpling.. Boy! My mother could make a
mean dumpling (smile).
Well, that's what my very first song was about. I must have been
about 7 or 8 yrs old & I still remember that song, it's a funny
song to, but I was serious at the time I penned my hit song (smile)
